I'm really fucking bored and decided to compile a list of fighting game characters based on their nationalities. I'm starting it off with Street Fighter, Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, Dead or Alive and Soul Calibur. Feel free to contriboot. I'm not including clones (Evil Ryu, etc) or guests from other companies (such as Akira, Sarah and other Virtua Fighter characters being in DoA5).

I thought it was always the same Ryu Hayabusa. The reason I used him is because it's still his first fighting game series, aaaand Ryu Hayabusa is and always has been Tecmo's intellectual property. If I did King of Fighters I would include Athena and the Ikari Warriors, for example.

Yeah just looked it up, you right, same dude. Timeline-wise it goes:

Current Ninja Gaiden series --> NES Ninja Gaiden series --> DOA series

I'm gonna compile your list (and any future ones) into the original post too. Just not tonight because I work in 5 hours and have to sleep still. :<
